Dear ESP supporters,
In New Zealand there is a Patents Bill proposal which would introduce
software patents. The parliament is accepting submissions until July 2nd:
http://en.swpat.org/wiki/New_Zealand
Participation in opposing this legislative proposal seems limited, so now
seems a good time to start gathering information on how to encourage various
groups to get active, in NZ now or in any country in the future:
http://en.swpat.org/wiki/Why_SME_unions_should_be_involved
http://en.swpat.org/wiki/Why_consumer_organisations_should_be_involved
http://en.swpat.org/wiki/Why_tech_groups_should_be_involved
http://en.swpat.org/wiki/Organising_a_campaign
Contributions to these pages, and the New Zealand page, are thus
particularly sought this week. I'm also looking for suggestions of what
friendly organisations I should talk to in NZ. I've already contacted NZOSS
and NZNOG. Please pass this email on to individuals and groups you think
might be interested or able to help.
http://en.swpat.org/ is now up to 156 pages. Many are still very short, but
the volume of information is growing steadily. It's a publicly editable
wiki, I invite everyone to contribute - a little or a lot.
